Frequently Asked Questions

We want your visit to be as seamless as possible. Read below for answers to frequently asked questions.

FAQs

1

Where do I park?

At our Dover location (24 Chestnut St) parking spaces in the lot labeled suites 1, 2, or 3 are permitted.

In Greenland (1 Bayside Rd) any available parking space in the lot for the building is fine.

2

Is there a cancellation policy or fee?

Yes, we do have a 24 hour cancellation policy, which holds the client responsible for 100% of the cost of the missed appointment. This policy is to protect our therapists and the time that they reserved and could have offered to other clients. Appointments can be cancelled online through Vagaro, our scheduling system, or by texting/calling 603-998-3366 prior to 24 hours.

3

What forms of payment does Massage Modalities accept?

We accept cash, checks, or Venmo paid in full at the time of service.

Our Venmo account is @MassageModalities

4

Should I tip my massage therapist?

Tips are always appreciated, but never required.

5

Are there any forms I need to fill out?

If you are a new client, we do request that you fill out our intake form. This gives the therapist information that is helpful in developing a care plan that is customized to client needs and preferences.

6

What do I wear?
Once the therapist leaves the treatment room, clients may undress to their comfort level before laying on the massage table. We use full draping with sheets and blankets for the clients comfort and dignity.

7

After I’ve seen one massage therapist, is it ok for me to see a different one?
Absolutely. We encourage our clients to give other therapists a try. Everyone practices so differently and has their own unique customized touch, so you may find that a combination of styles works best for you.

9

How do I know what pressure I need?
Pressure levels during massage will range from light to firm, or deep, depending on your preference, the needs of the muscles, and pliability of the fascia. Fascia is the connective tissue that wraps, supports, and holds muscles and organs. For the most effective massage, a therapist should ensure that all layers of fascia and muscle tissue can move completely and without restriction. Several different depths or pressures can be necessary for different body parts, body types, ailments, and conditions in order to achieve this. It is important that you communicate your comfort throughout the massage with your therapist, as you may find that your preference varies in different areas of the body. The therapists at Massage Modalities are highly trained and qualified to detect resistance to pressure and pliability in the body and to develop a plan to work through it.

10

Is there anything I should do or avoid doing after a massage?
Drinking plenty of water after a massage will help aid the elimination of cellular metabolic waste, including carbon dioxide, lactic acid, and bacteria byproducts. Muscles can be sore and temporarily fatigued after a massage, so exercise should be kept light after treatments.

11

Are there health benefits to massage?
Yes! Massage helps improve circulation, oxygenate the body, stimulate the lymphatic system, reduce levels of stress hormones (cortisol and adrenaline), and improve mobility. People who regularly incorporate massage therapy into their wellness routines typically experience more energy, better sleep, mental clarity, improved metabolism, faster muscle recovery post workout, increased range of motion, and pain relief.

12

Is painful pressure the key to a good deep tissue massage?
No. Although massage can be intense, and at times on the border of painful if needed, that is not indication of a better massage. Releasing adhesions and stripping out scar tissue can feel mildly painful during the treatment, but should ease with the release of pressure. If the pressure is causing you to tense up and resist the techniques, modifications can be made by the therapist to relieve the intensity.

13

How early should I arrive before my appointment?
If it is your first time at Massage Modalities, we ask that you arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out the intake forms, but for repeat clients just a few minutes works best.

14

Is it safe for me to get a massage if I have a medical condition?
There are very few conditions that we would recommend waiting on having a massage, such as rashes, metastatic cancers, open wounds, and contagious illnesses, but our therapists are well-trained to spot contraindications. If you suspect you should wait, consult with your doctor before scheduling a massage.
